عقاب السهول يفضل الأماكن المفتوحة والغابات حيث يتغذى على القوارض والثديات الصغيرة والطيور والحيات وفي بعض الأحيان يأكل الجيف عند ندرة الطعام، ويتواجد بكثرة في أوربا حيث يفرخ في الأشجار العالية.

The Common Buzzard prefer a mosaic of woods and open areas such as pastures and meadows. Hunts either from the air or from perch, where it hangs against the wind and scans the ground. Feeds mainly on rodents, snakes, lizards and also takes birds, feeds on carrion especially in winter.
